Uganda hosted the 6th East African Healthcare Engineering Regional Conference and Exhibition (EARC2018) from 28th to 30th November 2018 with Uganda National Association for Medical and Hospital Engineering (UNAMHE) spear heading the organization. The conference theme was
“Appropriate Technologies for Universal Health Coverages (UHC) in East Africa.” The theme was chosen basing on the fact that a broad number of nations across the world strive hard to provide promotive, preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative health services to their people while ensuring that the use of these services does not expose the users to financial hardships. In an effort to continuously improve quality healthcare service delivery in the EA region, EARC was initiated for all practitioners, implementers, academics, policy maker and beyond to discuss improvement.
Through outreach, engagement and mobilization of partners, the conference gained momentum and received great interest with over 80 abstracts submitted by researchers, practitioners and students from across the EA region. Over 150 participants came together at the 6th biennial EARC2018 on 28-30 November 2018 at hotel Africana Kampala, Uganda to discuss lessons learnt and best practices. 32 oral presentations grouped under the sub-themes of Health Technology Innovations and Research, Healthcare Technology Management, and Healthcare Infrastructure were shared and discussed at length during the conference.
This report outlines the key takeaways and examples from key note speech, oral and poster presentations, and discussions over the three days of the 6th Biennial EARC2018. It showcases the key takeaways and outstanding examples under the thematic areas of Healthcare Technology, innovation, and infrastructure.
